Mdm Teo was forced to move from her usual Joo chiat shophouse as the landlord had sold it off and gave her very little time to find a place which can keep her dogs and cats. Previously, she had to struggle with her $1000 rental at the Joo Chiat Shophouse which was almost burnt down when the aircon shop below caught fire. This tragedy killed several of her cats and a dog. 

Recently, she had finally found a new place at Tembeling Rd, and had just moved in. The rental is $1700.

Mdm Teo has lost alot of weight, and as she continues her care for the animals despite the stress she is facing, we are very concerned that she may be ill. Her sudden loss of weight and constant ringing in the ear makes us worried. However, she remains calm and claimed that she was over stressed from the string of bad events that had occurred. 

Mdm Teo is currently getting a little help from a friend but the rental is simply too much to afford. She is hoping to rent out  a room to help lighten her burden. So please spread the word if anyone wants to rent a room. 

We are trying to rehome some of Mdm Teo’s rescued cats as she can have more time to look after her own health. She will need any form of financial help.

 “Scarface” was found with the skin on the side of his face ripped off

We didn’t know what happened to this boy.  He was found with skin on the side of his face missing.  It was bleeding and he was in much pain.  We sent him to te vet where they stitched up his face and had to hospitalize him for dressing for about 2 weeks.

The bill came out to $546.80.  Our fund money is depleted for sterilisations and therefore we’ll need to appeal to kind donors to help with his medical.  Thankfully Elaine also made a Christmas series of cards to help raise funds for medical fees of accident victims.

Please kindly support and buy these cards so that at least the proceeds can help to pay for some of the hefty medical bill.

Tutti Case File:
Tabby grey kitten, about 2 months old, suspected ran over and dragged by a bicycle. Broken hip joint, fractured, hind legs, nasty abrasions and open wounds on tail and hind leg. We sent out an appeal for funds about a week ago and Tutti’s blessed with so many saviours. As of today, Sunday, 11 Oct 09, we have collected S$2,280 and the medical bill so far is S$211.

Tutti starts acupuncture next week and awaits surgery, when he’s strong enough for the procedure.  Corinne Goh is Tutti’s rescuer and fosterer.

Then there’s Tabs, a 3-month old kitten.  He was from a batch of kittens that were sent to SPCA.  Tabs was to be put to sleep because he is too thin and sickly.  Then Corinne got the call from SPCA…

Tabs’ Case File:
Tabby grey kitten, about 3 months old, weighing only 985 grams.  He’s very thin and SPCA staff described him as “not eating, skinny and limp”.  He was to be put to sleep, but luckily, they called Corinne to inform her.  She wanted to give Tabs a 2nd chance so took him back and sent him to the vet.  He’s hospitalized and under observation now.

After you see how active he is in this video, you would probably agree with giving him a 2nd chance.  How could anyone bear letting this kitten be put to sleep?

APPEALS for kittens : Tutti & Tabs

Today the Town Council of the Old Airport Area called Beck (caregiver of the area) to inform her that a witness reported a cat being ran over by a car.  Beck was at work and couldn’t rush down.  She called whoever she could think of but no one was available.  Luckily, we were able to get Lynn’s parents down to the scene to rush the cat to the vet.

The poor Persian-cross had urinated and defecated all over himself.  Poor cat was crying in pain.  The lower body appeared to have been ran over and there was alot of blood.  Someone had put the cat on a plastic sheet.  Every little movement hurt the cat alot.  He must have been there for an hour or 2, just suffering excruciating pain.

As soon as the car reached the entrance of the vet, the cat passed away.  So sad but at least he’s free from pain and suffering now.

Today’s not so good.  Sweetie, Fiona’s community cat, just passed away from FIP, kidney & liver failure   RIP Ginger Kitty and Sweetie.

Ginger Hit By Car

 On 19th June 2009, a Ginger cat was dashing across the West Coast Highway during the morning rush hour traffic and he was knocked down by a car.  A couple of kind samaritans, Jeff & Stephanie, quickly rushed the Ginger boy to the vet.  He survived, after a 3 month stay in the hospital.  His total medical fees are:

Mt. Pleasant ~ around $700

James Tan Vet ~ around $2000

Total bill was about $2700 (Rounded off for easier reporting).  You’ll find the details of both bills posted in the web album above.  On our side, we raised $1910 (Cash + Cheque).  Steph managed to raise some on her side to help out with the balance.  And I think a big chunk of the balance is paid for by Steph herself.  A big thanks to all below who contributed to Ginger’s massive bill.

On  4 September 2009, Steph released Ginger onto the NUS campus at the link bridge between AS3 and AS4 (Philosophy Dept and Blk 4 Arts & Social Science), with the permission of caregivers there.  He darted off some where and has never been seen since.  It’s been a week and we’re all still eagerly looking out for Ginger.

I hope that whoever travels to the area or hangs out on campus to please help to look out for this Ginger cat.  He has very good temperament and seems quite silly and not very street-smart.

We’ve raised more than enough funds to sterilise as many cats as we could at Shireen’s flat.  There were a few sad stories of kittens who have crossed over because they were too sick.  But there were also happy adoption stories, like the Ginger kitten who lost one eye…a kind smaritan friend took her in (thanks Shiqin!).

There are only a few cats still not yet sterilised as they are too young but the few volunteers who are still helping out will keep an eye on them and take care of the fundraising for sterilisations later on if they can’t manage.

Here is a summary of the accounts:

Total spend on sterilisations and medical : $1,039.00

Balance left over: $820.28

Details of accounts below, receipts available on request.  So, what are we doing with the balance?  Well, we have consulted the donors and all agreed that we can channel this money to save Bukit Batok Cats.

So, the 4 of us went down to the aforementioned area to check out the situation…Hell Broke Loose!  It was Out of Control!!!  Off the bet we counted 11 unsterilised strays in a span of 2 blocks.  Witnessed 3 caterwauling cats and territorial male studs chasing caterwauling female cats up the trees, and cats sitting on cars!!!  Not wonder it’s a Complaint Zone.  Not forgetting that some joker using different nicknames is relentlessly voicing his complaints of these cats on STOMP.

We need to do something on the ground while negotiations with Town Council is underway by CWS West-Side Representative.

We estimate the fund balance from Toa Payoh will cover the sterilisation costs of cats within these 3 blocks radius, but there are much more…the complaint area is pretty wide.  If you’re able to PLEDGE to the sterilisations of any strays, please sponsor today.  We’ll keep you posted on the sterilisation activities on the ground as well as post up the accounts once the fund is depleted.

Poor Wang Wang…

On 1 Sep, we were informed by his foster to remove Wang from his premises, because his recent weeks of whining, cries and barking has become a nuisance… He sounded very angry indeed. 

On 2nd Sep, Wang was evacuated and sent to the vet because he had nowhere else to go. We had him reviewed at the same time. To our dismay, wang was not walking properly. He was unable to balance himself and appeared very anxious. 

Within 2 hours, Wang could not even stand on his fours. He was crying in pain. Xrays revealed that his colon was stuffed with poo…loads of poo…

The vet immediately tried to induce his pooing by syringing soapy water… To our relieve, we managed to make him move his bowels. He was sooo exhausted…he laid motionless for quite sometime…Poor doggie!

2nd Sept, he managed to get up on fours and we hope he’s on his road to recovery. 

If only he can talk, then he would tell the fosterer that he was crying in pain, and not trying to be a nuisance…

WHILE STOCKS LAST!

Sometimes we use the term Hoarder very loosely but in this case, I stand firm on calling this family in the Malay Village “Hoarders”. Despite our efforts in sterilising and paying for the medical bills of their cats, they still neglected the health of the cats and throw them out onto the streets when they feel the cats are going to die.

Look what happened to this kitten despite us providing them with eye wash and medicine in the initial stages of flu? They allowed the condition to get this bad, now the kitten has lost an eye.

Despite being in so much pain, the kitten has such a good temperament. He was obedient, didn’t scratch and didn’t stress when we brought him to the vet.

Another unfortunate victim of the same Hoarder family is this diarrhea kitten being thrown out of their house. Was it because he was making smelly poop? They didn’t bother to medicate the kitten but just left it to fend for itself on the streets. The poor kitten was dehydrated and the legs were soiled with watery and smelly poo when we spotted him.

We hearby would like to appeal for fosters for these kittens when they can be discharged from the vet. The one-eyed kitten can be discharged any day now as the surgery to seal up one eye was a success. The diarrhea kitten is also starting to form more solid stools.
